Bloomfield & Associates respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website and in the course of our work, why we collect it, how we look after it, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

Who we are

Bloomfield & Associates is an accounting and business advisory practice based at 57b Patrick Street, Hobart TAS 7000. We have provided accounting, tax and advisory services to individuals and businesses since 1998. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to Bloomfield & Associates.

What we collect

Enquiries. When you use our enquiry form, we collect your name, email address, phone number (if you choose to provide it), the type of enquiry, and the message you send us.

Website analytics. When you visit the site, we record a basic page view so we can understand how the site is used. Each view records the page you looked at, the site that referred you (if any), a general country derived from your connection, and a broad device category (mobile, tablet or desktop). We do not use cookies, advertising networks or third-party tracking for this. To count visitors without identifying anyone, we turn your IP address and browser details into a one-way code that changes every day and cannot be reversed back to you. We do not store your raw IP address, and we do not build profiles of individuals.

Bookings. If you book a consultation, our booking buttons take you to Calendly, a third-party scheduling service. Any details you enter there (such as your name, email and chosen time) are collected by Calendly under its own privacy terms, and Calendly shares your booking details with us so we can prepare for and attend the meeting.

Client information.When you engage us for accounting, tax or advisory work, we collect the personal and financial information needed to do that work. This is covered in more detail under “Tax file numbers and client records” below.

Why we collect it

We collect enquiry details so we can respond to you and follow up. We use analytics to understand which pages are useful and to keep the site working well. We use booking details to schedule and hold consultations. We collect client information so we can provide the accounting, tax and advisory services you ask for, and to meet our professional and legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

How we store and secure your information

Information submitted through the website is stored in a managed PostgreSQL database (Supabase) hosted in Amazon Web Services’ Sydney, Australia region. Data is encrypted in transit between your browser, our website and our providers. Access to enquiry records is restricted to our staff through authenticated, secure sessions. We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

Third-party services we use

We use a small number of trusted providers to run the website and communicate with you:

  • Supabase hosts the database that stores website enquiries and analytics (Sydney, Australia region).
  • Resend delivers the emails we send in response to enquiries, including your acknowledgement and our internal notification.
  • Vercel hosts and serves the website.
  • Cloudflare provides the anti-spam check on our enquiry form. When you interact with the form, Cloudflare receives your IP address and browser information to tell a real person from an automated bot. Visitors who don’t use the form are never sent to Cloudflare.
  • Calendly handles consultation bookings under its own privacy terms.
  • Facebook is linked from our site. If you follow that link, Facebook collects your information under its own privacy policy; we have no control over that.

We only share your information with these providers to the extent needed to run the service they provide. We do not otherwise disclose your personal information except where you have agreed, or where we are required or authorised by law.

Tax file numbers and client records

As accountants, our engagement work involves handling sensitive information, including tax file numbers (TFNs) and financial records. TFNs are given additional protection under the Privacy (Tax File Number) Rule 2015 as well as the Privacy Act. We only collect and use your TFN for lawful, tax-related purposes, such as preparing and lodging returns with the Australian Taxation Office. We do not use your TFN to identify you generally, and we do not disclose it except where you have authorised us to or where the law requires it. Client financial records are handled in line with our professional obligations and are accessed only by staff who need them to carry out your engagement.

How long we keep your information

We keep website enquiry details only for as long as we need them to respond to and follow up on your enquiry, and then remove them. Analytics records are held in aggregate and do not identify you. Client engagement records are kept for as long as required to meet our legal and professional record-keeping obligations, which under tax law generally means retaining records for at least five years. When information is no longer needed and we are not required to keep it, we take reasonable steps to destroy it or de-identify it.

Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and you can ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. Just contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time. If we cannot give you access or make a correction, we will explain why in writing.

How to make a complaint

If you are concerned about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first using the details below, so we can look into it and try to put it right. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can raise the matter with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au.
